INDIGOFERA

Indigofera is a meditation on creative strategies. The organization is dedicated to advancing decolonized storytelling, radical arts education, and community-driven social justice initiatives. As the parent organization of projects like The BlackMaria Microcinema, Elephant, RDA, For Timothy Charles Lee, and other public art projects Indigofera nurtures platforms that voice on the margins in cinema, media, and beyond. Founded in 2016 [Indigo Impact], Indigofera supports filmmakers through the evolving landscape of visual storytelling, offering strategic guidance on development, funding, distribution, and audience engagement.

BlackMaria Microcinema

EDUCATION • RADICAL ARTS • SCREENINGS

The BlackMaria Microcinema is a space dedicated to storytelling, media education, community dialogue, art, and gatherings, opening on the unceded Ramaytush land of the Yelamu people. This 40-seat brick-and-mortar cinema, located at 465 South Van Ness in the Mission District of San Francisco, offers both virtual and in-person platforms for global participants. Focused on storytelling through a radical lens, the microcinema aims to foster engagement in cinema studies while supporting radical, marginalized, and underground cinema artists. Over the years, the BlackMaria has received support from YCD, the SF Arts Commission, the DreamKeeper Initiative, AAACC, and many supporters eager to expand spaces for storytelling in San Francisco. The BlackMaria is a project of Indigofera.
